Sokka Woke Up As A Waterbender!? T3 W9 Writing

This is my writing for the T3 W9 LCS and this weeks topic is "If you woke up with superpowers?" and it was really fun writing this, hope you enjoy!

N.L: to narrate

RT: add key vocabulary

“Sokka! Wake up! You’re going to be late for our fishing trip!” My annoying sister Katara shouts. I exclaimed “Let me get ready, first!” I got my tools ready and we hopped on the canoe and we paddled off to get fish. Katara was waterbending to get fish, while I was using a spear. As annoying as she is, Katara splashed me with water as a joke. “Watch it!” I yelled. I then proceeded to mimic her waterbending actions in annoyance. But this would be one of the best choices of my life. Out of nowhere, water began to start looping in the air. “Sokka, is it possible that,-” “I’M A WATERBENDER!?”

My jaw dropped on the canoe, in shock.  I couldn’t believe it. All these years, training to be a warrior, I had waterbending powers? “Katara, we need to go back and show Aang, Zuko and Toph!” We paddled back to the southern water tribe and I showed them my newfound powers.  Except when I did I splashed Toph. In return for my MISTAKE Toph decided to fling me up in the air with her earthbending. “Don’t worry guys, me and Katara can teach Sokka to control his powers!” Aang said.

I followed Aang to the nearby lake and taught me the basics. It was going fine, and I was doing okay, until we were learning how to make a huge wave. I formed the wave, and it was getting bigger, and bigger, and bigger until I couldn’t control it anymore. Then it hit one of the watchtowers and it fell down and crashed into someone's house. “Oh come on! That was my favorite watchtower!” Aang and Katara looked at me.  “Also, sorry that I broke your house ma’am.” This power wasn’t meant for me. But that was one flaw, what could  go wrong? After we rebuilt the lady’s house, Aang went to teach me ice bending, because Katara went to do the laundry. Then this happened. I tried to perform a trick and I  froze Aang into this big ice-cube.

I tried to thaw him out by making the ice into liquid again. I threw my hands forward and had collected plenty of water. Katara shouted “Sokka don’t do that-” I threw my hands backward. I heard a cracking noise. I turned my head around. Katara was frozen. I yelled for Zuko so he could thaw them. Zuko immediately dashed towards us and began thawing them. But by the time they were thawed, they were long gone. There were no signs of pulse. “NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!” I darted upwards. I was hyperventilating, contemplating whether it was real or not. It was all a dream. I guess it is better if I stay a non-bender.

I enjoyed this activity because I love watching Avatar the last airbender.
What is your story about?

  2. Kia ora Nic,

Great story! I like how you pick the ATLA universe to base your story in. You used a great problem in your writing (Katara being frozen) which really hooks the reader in. I thought it was creative that you made this experience just one of Sokka's dreams. What I would suggest for next time is maybe describing how Sokka felt when he jolted awake.
    For example:
I darted upwards, sweat dripping from my brow. I looked around me and noticed the familiarity of my tent and realised it was only just a dream. I blew out a sign of relief and settled back down to sleep. I guess it is better if I stay a non-bender".

Also remember to add your N.L and R.T at the beginning of your story.
